SPECIAL FUNDS
Named and Memorial Funds of the Boston Bar Foundation
The Boston Bar Foundation maintains named and memorial funds, which may be established in the name of the donor or someone the donor wishes to honor or memorialize. Making a gift to the Boston Bar Foundation is one of the most meaningful ways to honor an esteemed colleague or partner for his/her years of service to the legal profession.
A tribute or memorial gift to the Boston Bar Foundation in honor of a retiring colleague is a wonderful way to acknowledge a lifetime of service to the legal profession, or to perpetuate the memory of a departed colleague or admired leader of the Boston Bar. Such a tribute assures a continuance of the honoree's influence upon the profession and the community.
Contributions to these funds has allowed the BBF to invest in a number of projects that help to improve the Boston community. You will receive a letter of receipt from the BBF acknowledging your thoughtful gift. The BBF currently maintains the following named funds. Please click on the name of each fund for more information or to make a donation.
The Charles P. Normandin Fund was established in 2006 to support the Boston Bar Association’s bankruptcy-related public service projects that were established by the BBA's Bankruptcy Section.
M. Ellen Carpenter Fund
The M. Ellen Carpenter Fund was established in 2007 to support BBA public service programs that focus on mentoring young people and that create opportunities for the personal and professional enrichment of Boston's youth.
The Francis S. Moran, Jr. Fund was established in 2002 to help support and implement the goals and objectives of the BBA’s Children and Youth Outreach Project.
The Edward M. Casey fund was established through the BBF as a fund for improving the delivery of legal services for the poor in Greater Boston.
The John A. Perkins Fund was established through the BBF as a publications fund from which principal or income may be used to aid the publication of significant books, articles and speeches relating to the institution of law or the legal profession.
The Smith Family Fund is a fund established through the BBF and is held for the benefit of others, as directed by the Trustees of the Smith Family Fund. The original intent was that it fund projects that deliver legal services but for over a decade this fund has supported the Volunteer Lawyers Project.
The Austin Jones fund was established in 2009 through the BBF and supports summer internships for Boston Latin School students in the BBA Summer Jobs Program.
The Herbert W. Vaughan Fund
A Herbert W. Vaughan Fund was created to support real estate- related pro bono, public service, and civic programs of the Boston Bar Association.
Federal Tax Institute Fund
The Federal Tax Institute fund was established in 2011 to support the legal education of lawyers and the practitioners on the law of taxation.
