John & Abigail Adams Benefit
The Boston Bar Foundation will honor Mayor Thomas Menino with the BBF Public Service Award at the 2014 John & Abigail Adams Benefit. The award is presented each year to a business or civic leader who has shown exemplary leadership in community service and philanthropy.
Mayor Menino is well-known as a national leader on neighborhood issues, and as a native of Hyde Park, has served as the leader of his own hometown for the past twenty years. Throughout his two decades in office, Mayor Menino has proved himself an advocate of social and economic diversity, innovative public health services, environmental sustainability, neighborhood reform and education for underserved youth. In March, Mayor Menino announced he would not seek re-election in 2013 after holding his position as the city’s longest serving mayor.

The Adams Benefit is the BBF's signature fundraising event, welcoming nearly 1,000 attendees from both the legal and business sectors. The proceeds from this event enable the BBF to provide grants to organizations that deliver legal services to low-income individuals and underserved populations. Last year, with the addition of proceeds from this event, the BBF provided $1 million in grants to 24 legal services organizations that work in all areas of need – from assisting victims of domestic violence, providing critical legal services to military personnel, and keeping families in their homes.
