FUNDING PRIORITIES

The Boston Bar Foundation’s most important core mission is to ensure access to justice for all by helping to preserve the legal services safety net for our most vulnerable citizens.

In 2007, the BBF awarded approximately $2 million in grants to 60 nonprofit organizations and projects that provide civil legal services to low-income and underserved individuals in Greater Boston, or that improve the administration of justice in the Commonwealth by increasing accessibility to the court system for all.

The BBF has two grants cycles each year: The Adams Ball Grants cycle (February-March) and the IOLTA Grants cycle (May-September). Funding for BBF grants is made possible through individual donations, from proceeds from the John & Abigail Adams Benefit Ball and from monies provided to the BBF through the IOLTA program.

Grant applications are thoroughly reviewed by the BBF Grants Committee, which makes funding recommendations to the BBF Board of Trustees.
