The Boston Bar Foundation manages several named and memorial funds.  Grants from these funds are presented to the Board of Trustees by the Special Funds Committee.  In 2010-2011, the following distributions were made from Special Funds:

M. Ellen Carpenter Fund: $10,325 to fund two high school students’ fellowships in a public interest setting through the Boston Bar Association Summer Jobs Program. Through this program hundreds of local teenagers have gained a better understanding of the legal community and the responsibilities of working in the professional world.

Austin Jones Fund:  $11,450 to fund three Boston Latin School students’ fellowships in a public interest setting through the Boston Bar Association Summer Jobs Program. Students are taught about workplace rights and responsibilities and financial literacy.

Francis S. Moran, Jr. Fund: $3,235 to support the Boston Bar Association Law Day in the Schools Program. This program sends attorneys to public classrooms throughout Boston to teach lessons on the rule of law.

Charles P. Normandin Fund:  $10,275 to support the BBA Financial Literacy Program and Bankruptcy Pro Bono Programs. The Fund supports transportation for the Financial Literacy Students for courtroom field trips, supplies, and expenses for material for training and for students. The Normandin Fund also provides funding for the BBA Bankruptcy Pro Bono Programs, which focus on soliciting and training volunteers to take cases through VLP to represent pro se and unrepresented consumer debtors in bankruptcy cases.

Federal Tax Institute Fund: $355 to support a speaker stipend to further tax related education to members of the bar by funding transportation expenses of government speakers featured at BBA programs.

John A. Perkins Fund: $1,000 to fund the printing of a brochure for the BBA Military & Veterans Pro Bono Project. The brochure was developed by the BBA Delivery of Legal Services Sections Active Duty Military, Family Members & Veterans Committee in cooperation with VLP, LARC and Shelter Legal Services. It will be disseminated at Yellow Ribbon events to highlight the dedicated Help Line.

Herbert W. Vaughan Fund: $3,340 to support the Lawyer for the Day at the Boston Housing Court program for necessary supplies, equipment and ongoing maintenance.
