Privacy Policy for bostonbarfoundation.org

Welcome to the Boston Bar Foundation ("BBF") web site. The following paragraphs disclose our information gathering and dissemination practices. This privacy statement may change at any time; any changes will be posted on this page.

Privacy

The BBF is committed to the online privacy of its web site visitors and recognizes the need for appropriate protection and management of any personally identifiable information.

Personal Information means any information that may be used to identify an individual, including, but not limited to, a first and last name, a home or other physical address and an email address or other contact information, whether at work or at home.

The BBF strives to comply with all applicable laws around the globe that are designed to protect a visitor's privacy. The BBF's goal is to provide protection for a visitor's personal information no matter where that information is collected, transferred, or retained.

If you choose to provide the BBF with personal information on the Web, the BBF may transfer that information within the BBF or its parent organization, the Boston Bar Association (BBA), or to a third-party service provider, across borders, and from your country or jurisdiction to other countries or jurisdictions around the world. Your e-mail address will only be used within the BBF and its affiliates.

We do not sell, rent or distribute e-mail addresses to anyone outside the BBA or BBF; however, the BBA Lawyer Referral Service ("LRS") does provide an LRS members attorney’s office e-mail address to a referred client who requests it or who contacts LRS from another country or continent. If you wish to be removed from our e-mail mailings, please contact the Membership Department at membership@bostonbar.org, or 1-617-778-1924.

The BBA from time to time sells member postal address mailing lists to certain vendors who offer products and services to the legal profession; all material that is sent in such mailings is reviewed in advance for content and suitability. If you do not wish to be included on such postal address mailing lists, please contact the Membership Department.

 Third Party Services

Third parties provide certain services available on the BBF Web site on the BBF's behalf. The BBF may provide information, including personal information, that the BBF collects on the Web to third-party service providers to help the BBF deliver programs, products, information, and services. Service providers are also an important means by which the BBF maintains its Web site. The BBF will take reasonable steps to ensure that these third-party service providers are obligated to protect personal information on BBF's behalf.

The BBF does not intend to transfer personal information without a visitor's consent to third parties who are not bound to act on BBF's behalf unless such transfer is legally required.

Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies

Some of the BBF's Web pages use "cookies" and other tracking technologies. A "cookie" is a small text file that may be used, for example, to collect information about Web site activity. Some cookies and other technologies may serve to recall personal information previously indicated by a Web site visitor. Most browsers allow a visitor to control cookies, including whether or not to accept them and how to remove them.

Visitors may set most browsers to notify them if they receive a cookie, or a visitor may choose to block cookies with their browser. Please note that if you choose to erase or block your cookies, you will need to re-enter your original visitor ID and password to gain access to certain parts of the BBF Web site.

Tracking technologies may record information such as Internet domain and host names; Internet protocol (IP) addresses; browser software and operating system types; clickstream patterns; and dates and times that the BBF site is accessed. The BBF's use of cookies and other tracking technologies allows the BBF to improve its Web site by enabling it to analyze information that does not contain personal information for trends and statistics.

Forms

Our site uses forms that require users to give us contact information (like name and email address), method of payment, and other information. The customer's contact information is also used to contact the visitor when necessary. Information regarding method of payment is collected for membership purposes and to check the users' qualifications and bill the user for products and services.
